Telling the time
Hours, minutes, parts of the day
The time is told with feminine numbers (שָׁעָה is feminine): הַשָּׁעָה שָׁלוֹשׁ — it's three o'clock. Minutes past are joined with וְ, minutes to with לְ. The word “hour” is not repeated: just “three and a half”.

For “ten past” everyday speech uses the masculine עֲשָׂרָה (שָׁלוֹשׁ וַעֲשָׂרָה), even though עֶשֶׂר would be the strictly correct form. Other minutes are feminine: וְחָמֵשׁ, וְעֶשְׂרִים.
