Demonstratives

This, these, that, those

As a pronoun the demonstrative comes before the noun with no article: זֶה סֵפֶר — this is a book. As an adjective it follows the noun, and both take the article: הַסֵּפֶר הַזֶּה — this book.

“This/it” with no gender (a situation, an unknown thing) is always זֶה: מָה זֶה? — what is this? זֶה לֹא חָשׁוּב — it doesn't matter.
