Pi'el conjugation: לְדַבֵּר — to speak
Model pi'el verb
The marks of pi'el are the מְ prefix in the present (מְדַבֵּר) and an infinitive with לְ and no ה (לְדַבֵּר). Also: לְסַפֵּר (to tell), לְלַמֵּד (to teach), לְבַקֵּשׁ (to ask for), לְשַׁלֵּם (to pay), לְחַפֵּשׂ (to look for), לְטַיֵּל (to stroll), לְבַשֵּׁל (to cook), לְקַבֵּל (to receive).

When the middle root letter is guttural (א, ה, ח, ע, ר), there is no dagesh and the vowels shift: לְתָאֵר (to describe) — תֵּאֵר, לְבָרֵךְ (to bless) — בֵּרַךְ, לְשָׂחֵק (to play) — שִׂחֵק.
