Modal words: need, can, want, must not

Those that change for gender and number, and those that don't

The first group behave like adjectives or participles: they agree with the subject (אֲנִי צָרִיךְ / צְרִיכָה) and are followed by an infinitive. The second group never change and describe the situation in general: אָסוּר לְעַשֵּׁן — smoking is forbidden.
