Special verbs conjugated: to be, give, go, take, come, can

Six everyday verbs that don't fit the models

These verbs are best learned whole. לִהְיוֹת has no present tense (the copula is dropped), יָכוֹל has no imperative, and in לָתֵת and לָקַחַת the nun and lamed disappear in the future.

No copula in the present: אֲנִי עָיֵף — I am tired. “Was” agrees with the subject: הָיָה קַר — it was cold, הָיְתָה בְּעָיָה — there was a problem.

יָכוֹל has neither infinitive nor imperative. It is followed by an infinitive: אֲנִי יָכוֹל לָבוֹא — I can come.
